Secured Legal Support from Leading Newcastle Law Firm

We are delighted to announce that Muckle LLP, one of the North East's leading law firms, has officially taken the Shipyard Heritage Museum campaign on as a pro bono client.

For many people, this may seem like a simple partnership announcement. In reality, it represents one of the most important milestones in the campaign's journey so far.

Since launching the campaign, we have focused on building awareness, gathering support and demonstrating the strength of feeling that exists across our region for a permanent museum dedicated to the shipbuilding heritage of the River Tyne, Wear and Tees. Through media coverage, public engagement, partnerships and community support, we have shown there is a genuine appetite to see this important part of our history preserved.

The challenge now is turning that vision into something tangible.

Creating a museum requires far more than passion and public support. It requires the right structures, governance, legal frameworks and professional expertise to ensure the project can move forward in a sustainable and credible way. Questions around organisational structure, intellectual property, agreements, partnerships, funding opportunities, governance arrangements and future development all require specialist legal knowledge.

Having access to that expertise through Muckle is therefore a significant step forward for the campaign.

The relationship began with an introductory meeting between Muckle Partner Sam Pritchard, campaign founder Bronwyn Mogie and colleague Dr Mark Stoddart. During that meeting, the vision for the museum was discussed alongside the progress already made and the opportunities that lie ahead.

Following that initial conversation, Mark continued to develop the relationship, investing significant time and effort into ensuring Muckle fully understood both the scale of the opportunity and the importance of the project to communities across the North East.

His work helped demonstrate that this is not simply a nostalgia project. It is a campaign focused on preserving working-class history, supporting education, protecting heritage, strengthening community identity and creating a lasting legacy for future generations.

Those discussions ultimately led to Muckle agreeing to formally support the campaign through its pro bono programme.

What makes this particularly significant is that Muckle's support provides something that many grassroots heritage projects never have access to - professional legal expertise from the very beginning of their development. This allows us to make informed decisions, avoid costly mistakes and build strong foundations as the project evolves.

It also provides an additional level of credibility when engaging with potential partners, stakeholders, funders and organisations in the future. Professional support of this calibre demonstrates that respected organisations can see both the value and potential of the project.

As the campaign continues to grow, Muckle's guidance will help us explore the most effective route forward, ensuring that any future organisation, trust, charity or museum structure is built in a way that is robust, sustainable and capable of delivering long-term impact.

This support will not create a museum overnight, but it gives us access to expertise that would otherwise be beyond the reach of many community-led campaigns and places us in a much stronger position to plan for the future.

We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Sam Pritchard, Mark and everyone at Muckle LLP for their belief in the project and their commitment to supporting it.

Every successful museum begins with a series of small but important steps. Securing professional legal support from one of the North East's most respected law firms is undoubtedly one of those moments.

The campaign continues to move forward, and we look forward to sharing further updates in the months ahead.
